Webinar Video: Set Up and Run a Stepped Sine Test

How to Set Up and Run a Stepped Sine Test.

Data Physics is pleased to present this free webinar – specifically directed to those looking to expand their understanding of the features and functionality of the SignalCalc 900 Series Analyzer/Controller.

Webinar Agenda

  • Stepped vs swept sine tests – and when to use each.
  • How to set up a stepped sine test.
  • How to run a stepped sine test.

Swept sine tests are one of the oldest types of vibration tests and are still in common use today.

They are a quick and easy way to expose a test article to excitation across a wide frequency band.

But what happens when a test article has a strong resonance or other non-linearity at a particular frequency?

The sine sweep test only excites that particular frequency for a moment and then moves on. The test article isn’t given time to absorb energy at that frequency, and the response may still be changing when the test has moved on.

In this case the real response of the test article is not captured with the sine sweep test.

That’s where the stepped sine test comes in.

Stepped Sine tests break the continuous frequency band down into discrete frequency steps. For each step there is a prescribed settling time to allow the test article response to stabilize.

While this takes more time to run, it gives a more accurate response for highly resonant articles.

About the Coffee Break Webinar Series:
A potent brew of “how-to” for vibration testing professionals.

How do I run a single-shaker sine test? How do I set up a modal shaker test? What about running a single shaker SRS test?

Inquiring minds want to know, so we’ve decided to host a new series of short, 5-to-10-minute webinar demos designed to provide answers to many of today’s common vibration testing questions.

Each demo is available in our video library.
