Buzz, Squeak and Rattle Testing (BSR), also called Squeak and Rattle Testing (S&R) is an automotive acoustic test for determining fit and wear of vehicle components as they are perceived acoustically. BSR is the term given to the annoying noises such as those caused by plastic parts rubbing or a sound resembling an unlubricated hinge. BSR testing is the evaluation of those noises.
BSR tests are often meticulous sine sweeps that involve a level of human subjective interpretation on the annoyance of the particular noise. Sound quality metrics are sometimes also applied to objectify the process.
Data Physics can offer complete BSR systems or components to a system. Most Data Physics SignalForce Shakers offer a quiet mode option for buzz, squeak, and rattle testing. SignalStar Vibration Controllers can provide the closed loop excitation needed for evaluation of noises, and SignalCalc Dynamic Signal Analyzers can provide third party measurement analysis for other BSR test systems.
